What We Do
Bushland Rehabilitation
Bushland regeneration and rehabilitating disturbed ecosystems is our primary objective at FOGA. We work to reconstruct, rehabilitate and reintroduce threatened plant communities back to their natural environment. Our work consists of surveying these disturbed ecological zones, preparing a plan of action to carry out the required work.
We currently have 10 bush regeneration sites. Our focus is currently on unique and precious plant communities such as the Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub. This plant community fosters a rich ecosystem with over 60 native plant species. These habitats have been damaged, displaced and slowly destroyed to cover less than 3% of its original coverage (from 5,300 hectares to less than 125 hectares).
At FOGA, we run volunteering activities to support our restoration efforts. To learn more, click here.
Awareness Programs
At FOGA, we believe that each and every citizen can give back to the environment in a number ways. We run different training programs that aim to inform people about the importance of sustainability and healthy environmental practices.
Our awareness programs are inclusive of age and ability, teaching residents about basic bush regeneration practices, weed management in their homes and the importance of reducing waste products through the well known idea of reduce, reuse, recycle. We also provide formal training for volunteers and individuals seeking to progress their career in bush regeneration.

Wetland Conservation
The displacement of native plant species in wetlands and invasion of noxious weed species has significantly damaged habitats and ecosystems in these areas. Our water sources have also been effected by soil erosion, sedimentation and pollution problem. In addition to ESBS, we are also focusing to restore the pristine freshwater wetland system in the South Sydney region.
At FOGA, we carry out restoration work that rectifies these issues and conserve such ecologically endangered plant communities. Habitats such as Botany Wetlands are hugely influential on the sustenance and growth of many endangered flora and fauna species. Serious efforts are being undertaken to restore the native habitat to a degree of self-sustainability. To learn more, click here.
